Boredoms – Super You

Listen here:

Step 1: Record a song.
Step 2: Toggle between two vinyl recordings of it while spinning the speed dials.
Step 3: Profit.

I like the de-sync’ing effect, but I absolutely love how the toggling works as parallel editing in a film does to create tension by challenging the audience to suspend multiple diegeses in its mind at once. Here, admittedly, the effect is purely physical; the editing does not compare the two pieces metaphorically as would an intellectual montage, nor are there multiple narrative sequences for which simultaneity would bear any significance. But how about that, though? Taking the whole call-and-answer, male-female-duet shit to the next triptastical level? …For now I think I’ll stick with this strictly sonic assault.
