Film Micrœview #34: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)

This movie was awesome.

Smaug is the most stupendous achievement in CGI of all time. My jaw was dropped for a half-hour straight. The entirety of the struggle in Erebor was breathtakingly epic and beautiful.

Also there were pugs.

Compared with the first film in Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, this film was much more self-contained in structure and tighter in theme, in my opinion completely redeeming An Unexpected Journey, which I found by comparison to be scatterbrained and overwrought.
