Film Micrœview #169: High and Low (1963)

High and Low

Rating: Good.

The first random story I’ve seen where it NOT being your kid raises the stakes. Interesting tapestry of detective story and socio-economic (including anti-American/capitalist) commentary, presented in an unpredictable structure, lingering a bit in each phase. The occasional moving, multi-layered and blocked in depth composition/choreography are effective. Bleak portrayal of the junkie world in Japan.
