Film Micrœview #183: Beetlejuice (1988)

Beetlejuice

Rating: Shrug.

Unforgettable, classic score and soundtrack, no doubt. Some unforgettable, classic images and moments, too. But the whole just doesn’t stick together. Too brief, too trite. Occasional confoundingly tedious moments with the father character that I hadn’t noticed before. More gags flop than not. Story all over the place, characters missing motives and transitions. Just not a great movie, as great as nostalgia may want it to be. Not sure how much I look forward to the upcoming sequel anymore, but who knows.
