Film Micrœview #210: Voyage in Time (1983)

Rating: Good.

Only Tarkovksy could co-direct a documentary about himself.

Great to see him “at work” – not on set – but getting inspired.

The idea he has for a film which he has failed to make was so delightfully horrible – I wonder how self-aware this was, that is, if he was attempting to instruct on the worthlessness of ideas.

I don’t think I can sacrifice myself to art, myself. But he seems to be able to.

Surprising encounter with the Catholic priest – much worldlier and progressive than I’d’ve expected.

Some beautiful long takes here, stand among any of his other later work.
