Film Micrœview #245: Rosemary’s Baby (1968)

Rating: Good.

I’d seen this when I was much younger, but I missed a lot of the deeper messages. Satanic forces in this film represent the evil will of the state and organized religion to dictate terms over a woman’s body. This is seen even in their criticisms of her short haircut. This all gets me extremely emotional, sad, scared, and angry. I know I can never feel exactly what it is like myself, but this helps.

I also didn’t recognize Cassavetes when I was younger, or he didn’t mean anything to me at the time. Amazing performances all around.
