Film Micrœview #283: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)

Rating: Good.

I don’t know if I can get away with calling this “surprisingly” good, as it is a Miyazaki. But I had put off watching his directorial debut because it seemed a bit off character for him. Well, so it was at times, but at the same time it was thoroughly his. A handful of absolutely hilarious physical comedy moments, some zany memorable characters, some weird Japan-being-part-of-Europe stuff going on, beautiful imagery and pacing, and solid ending.
