Film Micrœview #343: What Happened, Miss Simone? (2015)

Rating: Good.

Effectively tells the story of this tortured genius, her dreams stolen by racism, her anger and talent funneled through the civil rights movement. I understand her when she admits that artists like herself would be much happier not directing their art towards activism, but that how could she morally do otherwise. I wish she could have just had her dream to play Bach in Carnegie Hall. And the tragedy of bipolar disorder is well rendered here.
